Street Dog Cull
The Turkish Government has approved a cull of the 4 million street dogs
Animal advocates are appalled by the recent plan to round up and kill Turkey's street dogs.
Most of these dogs live peacefully on the streets, many are abandoned pets.
The numbers are now large and there have been cases of dog attacks, but the previous policy of capturing, neutering and vaccinating was implemented inconstantly.
The dogs are now to be rounded up and put in shelters. Any not adopted after 30 days will be put to death. With a lack of shelters it is likely that most will not even be given this chance. With this number of dogs, only a tiny fraction have any hope of living.
With ongoing breeding of dogs and abandonment this plan has obvious flaws, as well as the inhumanity of many innocent dogs being killed.
Many in Turkey and around the world are protesting against this.
